X-Com: Enforcer

If I had to summarize a review of XE in one sentence, it'd be something to the effect of:
"X-Com Enforcer is a not really what you're expect from an X-Com game..."

...so is it really X-Com?
Yes and no. It is set in the X-Com universe, of course. The game takes place in the "First Alien War" era. You control a robot that was designed to, well, kick alien ass. The missions involve rescuing humans, destroying alien teleporters, and attacking a seemingly non-stop barrage of alien beings. Anyone looking for a thinking man's game of tactical strategy should look elsewhere. This is pure non-stop run and gun gameplay.

...but is it fun?
Yes, and in my mind that warrants this game's existance. This is in no way a replacement for X-Com Alliance, mind you, but it is fun mindless shooting. The gameplay consists of a 3rd person view. As stated before, you run and you gun. Occasionally you jump. Although the game is 3d, most of the action is on a single plain. You can't look up and down, and you don't really need to aim that much. The frentic pace keeps you on your toes.

Graphics...
The graphics in X-Com: Enforcer are hit and miss. The design of the enviroments is good at times, but some of the outdoor enviroments are a tad angular. Occasionally some buildings seem out of perspective (the Enforcer is about as tall as the trailers in the Trailer Park). The Sectoids, Snakemen, and Chryssalids are nicely modelled, as is the Enforcer. Some of the larger creatures are not as well modelled, however.  In particular, there is one boss in a level called 'Stadium Smasher' that is alsolutely horrible. The animation isn't all that great at times. The Sectoids move convincingly, but the Enforcer seems to skate around just slightly above the ground. All the game menus are nicely done.

Audio...
The audio department, for the most part, is solid. The scientist who created you and breifs you has the typical "i'm an annoying dorky scientist" voice, which I suppose does fit the total feel of the game. Personally, I'd give real money if he shut up. The metallic taunts of the Enforcer are beyond cool. Hearing it say "Get off my planet" and "I rule" are worth the price of the admission. The music is a collection of EBM tracks and Drum'n'Bass, and they are good and fit the feel of the game nicely.

Multiplayer...
Multiplayer consists of Deathmatch and Cooperative modes. The Cooperative mode is just a multiplayer version of the single player missions. Deathmatch is, well, deathmatch. I don't have too much to say because, frankly, I could never find anyone else playing Online. Sorry guys.

Overall...
X-Com Enforcer is a mindless shooter and offers some good entertainment value while you play through it. Ultimately though, you won't be going back.
